So, where do we begin? First off is going to the editing site. Go to ‘github.com’ to get started.
You will then be shown to the sign up/sign in page. I want you to now click the ‘Sign In’ option
Now, using the Email address and Github password given to you the Webmaster (go you!), I want you to now sign in. Make sure you are using the password for gthub, and not the password for the Email’s Protonmail account.
This is what it should look like when all the information is entered in correctly
Now, you will shown the Account’s home page. There is a section called ‘Top repositories’, I want you to click ‘Troop223/troop223.github.io’ under it
You will now be in the main menu of the Repository. There are two options you can choose from now, One is to update Trip plans, and the other is to update Meeting plans. First I will show how to update Trip plans.
So in order to update Trip plans, first click on the ‘Menu’ folder.
Next, click on the ‘Trips’ folder.
Now, click on the ‘prevNfutrPlans.html’ file
You will now be shown an overview of the code. We want to start editing, so click the ‘edit’ button represented by a pen icon
Ok, now you are in editing mode. I want you to now scroll down slightly until you get to a dark grey section that says ‘Copy and paste the Template below’.
Now go ahead and highlight the shown section
Next, find the grey line below that says ‘Paste template here’. Paste it there.
Next edit the three catagories that say ‘Date’, ‘Location’, and ‘Description’. Give an accurate date, location and description of the Trip the Troop is going on.
Once the Troop has come back from the trip, copy and delete the filled out template and scroll down under the ‘Previous Trips’ section and paste the Filled out template there.
Next, click the green ‘Commit changes’ button at the top right corner of your screen, provide short description of the changes you made if you want, and click ‘Commit changes’ again to save your work.
Ok, now you shoud be shown the code overview again, I want you to click the ‘Code’ button in the upper left corner.
Conrgats! You have just updated the trips for the entire Troop! Now if anyone wants to know when and where the Troop is going, they can find out! Next, let me show you how to update meeting plans. I want you to click the ‘Menu’ folder.
Next, click on the ‘Meeting_Plans.md’ file
You will now be shown the preview screen of the code in the file ‘Meeting_Plans.md’. I want you to now click the ‘edit’ button, which has a pen icon.
Scroll down to the grey ‘Copy and paste this template’ section. Copy the template and scroll down to the grey ‘paste template here’ section.
Paste the template, and starting with the bottem, fill out all the fields until you get to the top, LEAVING the sections that have ‘<th>’ and ‘</th>’ surrounding them. Make sure to include all meetings of the month in the Template, so as an example if there are technically five meetings in the month instead of four, copy and paste a section with ‘<tr>’ and ‘</tr>’ with Date, Description and Location to add another line.
After finishing all work needed to update Meeting scedule, click the ‘Commit changes’ button at the top right corner of the screen. Add a short description if prefered, and click ‘Commit changes’ again.
Once you have saved your work, you will be on the preview screen. Click the ‘Code’ button to return to the repository’s menu.
Great job! You have just edited the Trip plan and Meeting plan! There are other things you can learn about the website, coding and github, but this is a great start! You should now be on the repo’s (repository) main menu. Simply click the profile icon button in the upper right corner, scroll down until you see ‘sign out’, and sign out.
Well, that is all for now, I hope you have a productive time as Webmaster!
Yours, - Zephyr Carter.
